Hi bidulock I have had a break from Arch due to personal matters and have just done a fresh install. I thought alsa was the main sound program but it looks like Arch has changed and pulse is running as the default. That probably explains why I could not get the mixer to run properly. I have uninstalled and got my system back to standard. I am finding the wiki a bit confusing regarding sound. All I want is a simple dock app to control my system sound. Thanks for your efforts with the dock apps.

Are you running pulse audio?

To make this work I had to install "alsa-oss" and modprobe snd-seq-oss modprobe snd-pcm-oss modprobe snd-mixer-oss It works in Window Maker on my skylake and looks like a dock-app with this command, wmmixer -g 64x64 -w -r 2 There is one glitch in that if I use the app to mute sound i loose sound. Looking at alsamixer whilst I mute I can mute "Master" ok mute "PCM" ok and then if I mute again the "Surround" gets the "MM" and I loose all sound and can only get it back with alsamixer. It may be my configs that are causing this but can not see any obvious mistakes. If you need more info just ask.

Note that you need to load snd-mixer-oss kernel module for this to work.
