Something is wrong on your side. I just cloned the repo from scratch and built the package with no problems.

I checked with Paul Mattes: he did update the package without changing the version number. There was an issue with extracting libexpact without using git (this did not affect us) so he changed the tarball generation.

The hash has been updated, git show HEAD will show it. Something happened.

Does someone have the time to check with x3270? They updated the file but did not update the wiki, nor the version. Something needs a double-check before we just YOLO update the hash.

I cannot build the current version of the package. It seems the SHA256 has not been updated. The current sum is ef576c231d0d62340e335fc33aac45075b0d991a00404348d114fb59740cce2f for the file suite3270-4.2ga7-src.tgz, where the actual sum for the file on the server bgp.nu is 68f16dd3bc75f50c054e8482711e76fcf5b4984aacc47a359fd94f01c9c0a429.

The font is not a dependency in the same manner as Xorg is not. Since X is client-server, you have the possibility to install x3270 on a machine but run Xorg on another one.

I tested a clean Arch VM where I just installed Xorg with a window manager and x3270. Everything works out of the box if you install Arch as per documentation.

To fix the "Cannot convert string" issue which causes the menu and buttons labels to be unreadable, install the xorg-fonts-100dpi package. I guess this should be a dependency.

When starting up x3270 from the console the following messages do appear:

Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-helvetica-bold-r-normal--14-*-100-100-p-*-iso8859-1" to type FontStruct

Warning: Unable to load any usable fontset

I'm using Manjaro. Fonts in the emulation itself are working fine, it's just these menu items.

Thank you.
