there are several commits that should be added as patches to match the behaviour on Void (and make it compatible with openssl 3): https://github.com/void-linux/xbps/compare/master...release-0.59

The build fails with

Checking for rb_tree_init() ... no.

This package conflicts with xbps-git

You can try these two lines, they fixed the thing on the xbps-git package: export LDFLAGS="$LDFLAGS -L/usr/lib/openssl-1.0" export CFLAGS="$CFLAGS -I/usr/include/openssl-1.0" right before the ./configure call
