The next release was indeed released as 0.5.0, so the latest PKGBUILD will be seen as a downgrade by pacman.

I really do not want to bump the epoch so soon. I do not plan to package RC releases again in the future, and if I really have to I will name it as such so this does not happen.

It is too late, but I will keep that in mind in the future. If we are lucky upstream will skip to 0.6.0.

Keep in mind that 0.5.0 is lesser than 0.5.0.rc1, but greater than 0.5.0rc1, so you should skip any dash or dot entirely if you want upgrades to go smoothly when a full release lands. That said it might too late for that already :P

git is needed in makedepends. Anyway you should respect the Rust package guidelines: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Rust_package_guidelines
