Thanks for reporting this situation. After a discussion with other package maintainers, I've suspended @gabrielearchapt account, reverted the git history and disowned the package.

My emails to AUR general are pending moderation, so it may take a while for my email to go through.

Forgive me, I don't know if I should take this to a mailing list. But, my issue with this isn't that upstream is EOL, it was feature complete for my use case. My issue is the new maintainer who picked up the packages has hijacked it to "Gabriele's custom-built date and time plugin for Xfce panel (v0.8.3-4)" and put their name in "/usr/share/doc/xfce4-datetime-plugin/MAINTAINED_BY_GABRIELE" and completely destroy the PKGBUILD. It installs nothing now. The changelog went from adding the entire source tar to the aur, then messing with file hashes and removing credits, to removing the tarball, then making the entire thing a broken ad for a 404 webpage.
The maintainer did the same to ntpclient, and made it "Gabriele's Precision NTP sync tool with system logging (v2026.05.10)"

Ref says: "After review: this plugin is EOL since xfce4.18, use Clock plugin already in xfce4-panel".
CASE CLOSED.

Like @SlateGray said, this package is completely broken!
So I guess the question now is: Since @gabrielearchpt is making a mess out of this, what can be done about it?

This package is completely broken. gabrielearchapt adopted it on 2026-05-04 and has been systematically destroying it ever since. The source tarball URL was removed, the PKGBUILD now lists only the .install file as "source", so there's literally nothing to compile. Running makepkg will fail. The build() function just does
cd "$startdir"and tries to run./configureandmakeon nothing. On top of that, all the original contributors were stripped from the PKGBUILD, the description was changed to self-promote ("Gabriele's custom build"), the URL was swapped from the official XFCE docs to a personal GitHub page that 404's, and the post_install hooks now advertise the maintainer's other packages. The last working commit is c760550e from 2026-01-24. Upstream is archived, but that PKGBUILD was fine.

I used below to get it to install.
