@Carlinhos: I can replicate this unwanted behavior as well. It does not retain any user-defined settings after running 'xfce4-panel --restart'. There isn't a .rc file for it in ~/.config/xfce4/panel and there's no trace of configuration options for the plugin in xfce4-panel's xfconf file (which rules out tweaking a file manually).

Whenever I reboot it goes back to showing the icon only even though I changed it to both icon and label. Anyone else experiencing this behaviour?

@Tanath: A simple recompile against the new XFCE libs and it's working happily for me on 4.10. All the package maintainer needs to do is bump the release.
