prepare() fails for me:

==> Starting prepare()...
    Updating crates.io index
error: the lock file /tmp/makepkg/build/xr-picker-git/src/xr-picker/Cargo.lock needs to be updated but --locked was passed to prevent this
If you want to try to generate the lock file without accessing the network, remove the --locked flag and use --offline instead.

and while on it:
Please make sure that the cargo stuff is downloaded into a subdirectory of ${srcdir}/, not cluttering the users home directory. You can use $CARGO_HOME variable for this.
