@der_fenix: I tried that before. All I got, was a recording of the whole desktop in an enormous huge file, or horribly lagging window recording. Plus: no convenience at all.

dsohler, if you find another screen grabber with same functionality which work so fast as xvidcap - I'll be very glad! :)
All other grabbers what I found or very stupid and buggy or has no needed functionality.

In any case there is ffmpeg, that can grab X11 and save in any supported format. It have not gui, but it is fast enough and has many functions.

xvidcap only supports xwd as output and only allows me to create single image “recordings” (a bunch of jpg files). The Patch works as in “it builds now”, but the program is plain useless without video recording capabilities …

Starting xvidcap gives me an error message:

If I rightclick the file name in xvidcap dialog and select “Make video” I get “sh: command not found” on shell.

Are there other screen grabbers with same features (variable size and position of recorded area, various output formats, same good performance, same convenience)?

Last official stable release was October 2006, last change in repo was 2009 (added debian package), audio never worked. I hate fiddling around with community patched software (even if most community patches are very good) … :(

patch included

I too can configrm that neomorphs patches do work (haven't tried sound recording though)

Dirk commented on 2012-07-16 18:16

I can confirm working patch (even though still no sound recording)

System is completely up-to-date from an up-to-date mirror. AUR programs are all up-to-date according to Yaourt.

$ xvidcap
xvidcap: error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Any hints?

Save that into a patch file, put the patch in PKGBUILD, and it works ;)

Not compiling properly.
