@darkbasic - Thank you - excellent work done here!

As I commented on 'staging':

For those needing zfs support against the 6.12-x kernels released today, I have successfully tested https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/zfs-dkms-staging-compat-git against the new linux and linux-zen kernels. ZFS dkms-installs without issue against the latest, as well as older, kernels.

Cheers

@darkbasic - Thank you for your effort. First run of compat worked against my 6.11.9 kernels. See my comment at zfs-dkms-staging-git,

Cheers

@bjin thanks for changing your mind. I see value in co-maintaining the same package and I'm happy that our objectives align now. I will push the compatibility patches to zfs-dkms-staging-git and delete this package.

@darkbasic: I reverted 2.3.0rc changes, and then I have a change of mind.

I added you as the co-maintainer of both zfs-dkms-staging-git and zfs-utils-staging-git packages. To to make life easier for both package maintainers and users.

Just two things I would like to recommended for maintaining packages: 2. Run "makepkg --printsrcinfo > .SRCINFO" before commiting changes. 3. Raise pkgrel for new modification.

Please tell if you have alternative thoughts or plans (like maintaining new packages separately).

Thanks

No this will track 2.3 once 2.3 stable gets released.

This makes sense, there should be a package for 'latest dkms zfs that is as stable as possible while being compatible with latest kernel' for people who want to both run zfs and most recent linux rather than linux-lts. No idea what a good name would be - if the 2.2.x version pin were permanent, I'd suggest 'zfs-dkms-2.2-latest' as per convention..

darkbasic commented on 2024-10-12 07:56 (UTC)

Contrary to zfs-dkms-staging-git this package won't track zfs-2.3 anytime soon. In my mind its purpose is not to follow RCs of yet to be released major versions: on the contrary I want to have the latest stable fixes and compatibility patches for the latest kernels. So until 2.3.0 stable gets released I will keep following 2.2.x. Feel free to suggest a better name which reflects these goals.
