@bjin: Unfortunately, this does not solve the problem, as git is used to calculate the _git_branch variable. However, this call is outside the individual function bodies of PKGBUILD.

The only way I know of is to include "git" in the "base-devel" package so that git is already present within the CHROOT environment. Unfortunately, this needs to be discussed elsewhere, not to mention implemented ;)

@brody: my bad, added 'git' to makedepends. Hope this could fix the issue for clean root (not tested, could still fail)

Package is not buildable in a clean chroot environment because the pre-depended git binary is not part of base-devel.
