@Rhinoceros - I finally got screen sharing to work under KDE with Wayland. Looks like I'm using the same versions as you:

  • Zoom 6.2.10
  • pipewire 1.2.6

I followed the Screen share section on the Zoom wiki page:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Zoom_Meetings

The only thing I didn't need to do was set XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=gnome. I followed the other steps, and now I can choose my desktop/window to share. Prior to following the wiki I couldn't stop screen sharing without the hanging issue, which I was experiencing prior to 6.2.10.

I contacted the zoom support on 13th July 2016 and tried to lure them into creating a proper PKGBUILD respectively adopting this one, considering they are providing a package over very none standard ways to the Arch Linux community (downloading via a *foreign* site) and not through the official repo or the AUR. However there was little to no progress so far.

Is there a fix/workaround for sharing individual screens or windows? Stopping screen sharing works now after downgrading pipewire, but it doesn't fix the other issue.

Both versions of zoom 6.1.x for me have serious issues with the audio stack. I have multiple webcams/microphones and speakers. Selecting any of audio outputs in the zoom UI does not work and when selecting "same as system" audio will work for some time and then stop working - changing the output on my system "fixes" it again temporarily. While this is happening the microphone is also partially broken adding sound artefacts (doesn't matter which mic I use). Sharing computer sound is also broken (it makes the speakers stop working). This may be related to the screensharing problems reported by others.

Downgrading to 6.0.12.1 fixed things for me.

For those who're looking for downgrades, you need to downgrade the following packages:

  • libpipewire and pipewire (1:1.0.7-3)
  • pipewire-* (1:1.0.7-3) e.g. pipewire-audio, pipewire-pulse, pipewire-session-manager
  • wireplumber and libwireplumber (0.5.4-1)

Downgrading pipewire to 1.0.7 version works with this version of zoom and screensharing works without crashing

@Polly correct, it's 6.0.12.5501 on Flathub indeed. Does not crash for me, the only "small" downside is that you can't join all the meetings with an outdated app version. I use arch (btw) with pipewire 1:1.2.1-1

Polly commented on 2024-07-25 09:51 (UTC)

@angelfox, what is the installed version, though? On flathub it is 6.0.12.5501. Installing that from their distribution server does not solve the crash for me on Manjaro with pipewire 1:1.2.1-1.

FYI: screen sharing works and does not crash after stopping it with the Flatpak version

I no longer need the /usr/libexec symlink with 6.1.5, but I still can't share individual windows on Plasma and, as others have said, it still freezes when I try to stop a share.

Smoerrebroed commented on 2024-07-23 09:33 (UTC)

I just updated the PKGBUILD manually for 6.1.5 and can confirm that screen sharing works again without the symlink mentioned below. However, Zoom locks up when stopping the screen sharing. :-/

6.1.5 is out.

What they fixed: screen sharing

What they didn't fix: app crashing after the screen sharing is over with Pipewire v1.2.0
