Hi to all. Have same printer Brother MFC-J6910DW and was also having issues in getting it to print using Cups 2.3.3op1. I was able to scan without any issues, manually from printer, or using Simple Scan and or gscan2pdf. Following bendev25689 findings below I was able to get printer function up and running using severachs patch "%" on line 576 located at "/usr/share/cups/model/Brother/brother_mfcj6910dw_printer_en.ppd" and decided to play around and try the /opt/ directory mentioned by mendev25689, still worked. I then removed the patch "%" from both of these locations, saved, rebooted and as expected no printing function again, so added it to line 576 at the /opt/ directory only this time, saved, rebooted and had printing function back. So it seems that the patch "%" will work in both /usr/, /opt/ directorys and or both at the same time. I then installed "Print Settings (system-config-printer) 1.5.15-1" from Arch Repositories, rebooted system and was able to access printer properties and other functions associated with Print Settings function. Taking it further I then removed the patch "%" from both /usr/ and /opt/ directory,saved, rebooted and found that I had full printing function available to me without the patch changes installed and everything is running as per normal some days later and multiple system shutdowns and reboots. Arch Kernel: 5.10.10-arch1-1 OS: ArcoLinux 20.01.7x86_64 Do not know if this will assist in any way, but thought it worth mentioning as the line 576 patch "%" is still not added to the line(s) 576 in /usr/ and /opt/ and the printer is recognised as soon as it is turned on, Print Settings working fine.

both a fresh install, and a formerly working driver are giving the same issue.
cups is version 2.3.3op1
OS is manjaro kde 20.2.

After some more digging, it seems that the problem is issue 64. Looks like your patch isn't actually doing anything. The ppd files at both
/usr/share/cups/model/Brother/brother_mfcj6910dw_printer_en.ppd
and
/opt/brother/Printers/mfcj6910dw/cupswrapper/brother_mfcj6910dw_printer_en.ppd
are unchanged with the error on line 576. Manually correcting the file at /usr/share... fixes the issue. The file at /opt/brother... seems to not affect cups, but I corrected it anyway.

Not sure why the patch isn't working, since I don't know how makepkg works.
But it looks like on installation, the patch file is simply copied to /opt/brother/Printers/mfcj6910dw/0001-cups-segfault-orphan-CloseUI.patch as opposed to actually being applied.

edit to add: for future reference: the built in ipp anywhere driver works as well (it works better for some use cases). Less customisation is available, but printing is faster and text is blacker. To add the printer using this driver, use the connection ipp://<PRINTER_IP_ADDRESS>/ipp/port1

I am also having the same problem. Only, the web-ui does not give an error. cups silently crashes. first error in journalctl is
kernel: cupsd[582]: segfault at 2a ip 00007f3f010b8cf9 sp 00007fffc0c040c8 error 4 in libcups.so.2[7f3f0108c000+55000]

followed by the same messages shown by olib. 

Process 582 (cupsd) of user 0 dumped core.

Hi,

if I try to install my Brother MFC-6910DW printer with this driver and CUPS 2.3.3op1-1 the "Add printer..." UI gives me a "Failed to add new printer" message dialog. I use "Manjaro Gnome 20.2".

In the logs I can see these messages:

It's in the AUR archive and you have it. You probably have it working so go ahead and add it.

Anyone know where the brother-mfc-j6920dw package went? I have it installed locally on my laptop, but I can't find it in AUR anymore.

Updated. Package should be named brother-mfc-j6910dw 3.0.0-1, not -2.
