Thank you for your work- I just let you know that it does work with an Canon MF657Cdw. I did install the optional dependencies jbigkit, libjepeg6-turbo and already had ghostscript and pango.
As suggestion/idea - maybe add cngplp2 (settings utility) and cnsetuputil2 (maybe with a 'sudo' in front of it) as Xdg-menu-entries. I would offer to have these gui-tools from the menu of your desktop.
Canon europe shows 5.80 (same version as canon asia) as released version since dec 2023, going to update soon.

I looked at it and it does appear canon asia currently distributes a newer version then canon europe.
canon support sites on other parts of the world either don't show any UFRII linux drivers or redirect to canon europe.
I'm resetting the out-of-date flag, but will be watching canon europe business support.
The upstream url used in the PKGBUILD doesn't work anymore, so I'll switch to https://www.canon-europe.com/support/business/products/office-printers/imagerunner/series/imagerunner-1730i.html?type=drivers
Thanks for the alert, SmashedSqwurl . I looked at the jbigkit package and agree it should now provide the needed shared libs.
I also discovered that there is now a new release of version 5.70 .
The .spec-file for the version cnrdrvcups-lb now builds states
%define VERSION 5.70
%define RELEASE 1.11
while the latest download links points to a .spec file that states
%define VERSION 5.70
%define RELEASE 1.18
Looking into rebuilding & changing pkgver .
It looks like the latest version of jbigkit includes shared libraries, so I'll probably delete libjbig-shared soon.
In order to have a functional Canon C5240i I needed libjbig-shared and libjpeg6-turbo installed as well; otherwise it just got stuck at Rendering complete. I set it up using sudo cnsetuputil2 and via lpd://<IP>.
updated to 5.70
added AARCH64 support after a report from Lukas W. who got this driver working on a Raspberry Pi Zero W 2 .
Thanks, Lone_Wolf. Yes, it turns out I was missing one library (libjbig-shared). Now everything works fine again.
Do you have all optional depends installed ?
If yes, verify if it works in a canon-supported distro like ubuntu or fedora .
My MF4410 printer used to work with the older UFRII driver, but it doesn't work anymore with this one. When I send something to print it starts blinking as if receiving data, and then nothing happens.

Canon appears to have added i686 , ARM Aarch64 and MIPS64 processor support since Version 5.30 .
A quick peek indicates that the PKGBUILD will need adjustments to work on those other architectures.
If you do run archlinux (or something close to it) on such a processor, have a supported printer and are willing to help test the adjustments, send me an email.

On some systems printing fails while a component of this driver consumes 100% CPU . SmashedSqwurl figured out this appears to be related to differences between archlinux jbigkit and debian jbigkit.
A workaround is to install https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/libjbig-shared/ .

The printers supported by this package are often networked.
problems can be in the cnrdrvcups-lb driver, but also with authentication over smb, vpn settings etc .
Troubleshooting those is often very hard.
Archlinux and derivatives are not supported by canon. Use whatever works for you, even if that means using canon drivers in a VM that runs a supported distro .

Main difference between 3.70 and 5.x versions :
3.70 has 64-bit & 32-bit code and needs to be built as a multilib application. Also it includes proprietary binaries from canon.
5.x is pure 64-bit and more parts of it are opensource.
