Fair enough!

I think it is absolutely awesome that someone fixes some of the long standing issues with ddate and I'm definitely interested. But I'm a little hesitant to switch to a version that is not a drop in replacement.

Especially that I will not notified with a crash of ddate on St. Tib's Day with your version is a really a problem for me.

Also problematic are the differing cli arguments (date order) and and differing format parameters.

If you're interested, I've created an updated fork that

  • fixes the St. Tib's Day bug
  • makes it much easier for users to add more slogans to the list (it's no longer a hardcoded list)
  • has easier-to-read code (at the cost of fewer funny variable names, I'll grant)
  • no longer requires cmake
  • changed the formatting strings a bit
  • made the print-only-on-Holydays syntax more flexible (it no longer has to be at the end of the line)
  • and (most importantly) uses the Official Discordian Document Numbering System.

Also, if you're interested, here's an example PKGBUILD for it (-:

That is interesting, I mean it must have worked at some point …

Anyway, thanks for reporting.

When I ran makepkg, I got the message "CMake Error: No source or binary directory provided" -- a "." to the end of the cmake command in the PKGBUILD fixed it for me (i.e. "cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/usr .").

Thanks for the package, by the way! This is one of those commands I forget about regularly but always miss when I remember it.

As I said having ddate back in the official repos would be great! No objections from me.

escondida commented on 2018-04-04 20:52 (UTC)

Forgive me for the confusion; the package would still be ddate. The "fnord" just snuck in, as they are wont to do.

Arvedui commented on 2018-03-31 11:39 (UTC)

You are planning to create a package called fnord in [community]? Have I understood that correctly?

If Yes: I would be thrilled if ddate would find it's way back into the official repos, however I do worry that it might be hard to find in a package called fnord.

escondida commented on 2018-03-28 20:25 (UTC)

Arvedui, as current maintainer, would you object if I were to assimilate ddate into fnord [community]?

Sure :)
