The upstream author inglorion claims not to have found this already existing.
I'm fairly sure it was in freebsd in 2000s. Also there is a project
https://sourceforge.net/projects/detach/
with version 0.1.0 dating from 2000-04-17.
Seems like wheels keep being re-built.
