Updated to 2024.1.2 which uses Java 21.

Mikaka commented on 2024-02-11 12:43 (UTC)

Faf now requires java 21:

~ >>> downlords-faf-client
/usr/share/java/downlords-faf-client ~ No suitable Java Virtual Machine could be found on your system. The version of the JVM must be at least 21. Please define INSTALL4J_JAVA_HOME to point to a suitable JVM.

@TheCraiggers makes sense, the game is x86 not x64.

Also, I followed the FaF wiki instructions, of course, adopted to Arch, and it works. I don't know if the bubblewrap-suid is needed, but I installed it and the game seems to be fine.

Just a little note, I did get the 'gray screen' which seemingly happens on Windows, to fix this, you can edit the Game prefs folder in the Proton prefix folder (steam/steamapps/compatdata/9420/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Gas\ Powered\ Games/Supreme\ Commander\ Forged\ Alliance/Game.prefs)

@TheCraiggers added, thanks!

When I switched from Proton 5 to Proton 7 (this fixes the missing graphics for me), I discovered a missing dependency. The game would crash on start with a "Failed to create surface" error, but installing lib32-libxcomposite fixed it. (I already had libxcomposite installed.) Perhaps this should be added to the deps.

Upstream only supports JDK 17 and only specific builds of it. In the past, we've had breakages due to this. Even different builds of the same version created problems. Right now, luckily, jdk17-openjdk works. So I'm not going to change the dependency.

It also works with jdk-openjdk. No need to force 17. In my case it would force me to have jdk-openjdk and jdk17-openjdk installed.

@Benzi-Junior which is in the base-devel group, which all AUR package assume you've already installed.

The package "which" is needed to login, please add it as a dependency.

The version is out of date and can not be played with anymore. Needs to be updated to "2022.8.0".
