qdvdauthor includes the program qslideshow, a GUI to dvd-slideshow. I have translated qdvdauthor to Qt5.

With following changes one can build a slideshow with ffmpeg:
dvd-slideshow 0.8.6-svn1
line 506:
ac3=1 --> ac3=0

@vmp,

Thank you for your heads-up :) I haven't needed to use dvd-slideshow for a long time now. When I get a bit of free time I will try it with ffmpeg, then with the -mpeg2enc option. I might be able to patch things up so ffmpeg works again???...

Your comment is appreciated :)

I use the option -mpeg2enc to create a slideshow because ffmpeg causes an error.

@vmp,

Thank you for your heads-up about qdvdauthor! I had no idea.... I thought dvd-slideshow had become a forgotten resource. And, honestly, I haven't used it in two years now. But it is a simple, quick-and-dirty tool to have in my toolbox when I need to create an A/V slideshow.

Thanks to your notice, I have incorporated an additional patch to the main dvd-slideshow script. ('soxi "$1" -D' -> 'soxi -D "$1"'). If you are not the creator/maintainer of qdvdauthor, would you please pass on my thanks for catching this bug for patching? I will try to leave a note on the project's SourceForge page, mailing list, etc.

(FWIW, the qdvdauthor maintainer might want to update to dvd-slideshow ver. 0.8.6-1, which includes the fix 'loop_input -> loop 1'.)

Thank you again so much!

@MarsSeed,

DVD? What's a DVD? :D I may need to rename this pkg to just 'slideshow' ;)

I have used dvd-slideshow to put together a number of MP4s of slide transitions backed by music. Absolutely nothing fancy or complex.

Upstream hasn't had any activity on its SourceForge page since the end of 2015. Anyone interested in translating these bash scripts to Python (or anything more suitable than bash) please have at it and let me know. I was interested in doing that. Then I looked at how complex the main script is and figured it would take me several weeks of futzing around in my spare time, so it never happened... :(

HTH :)

I don't even have a DVD drive anymore :D

I just wondered here from the former libav-no-libs AUR package.

As a self-appointed volunteer maintainer, I was trying out old packages (especially multimedia related ones) and tried to either revive them or submit the really dead ones for deletion. :)

That's how I'd found out that the libav project has been basically defunct the last few years and the code had tons of unpatched bugs and vulnerabilities at this point.

So then I notified the maintainers of the few packages that still optdepended on libav. End of story. :)

Hi @prg and all,

I'm shocked anyone discovered this pkg on AUR! 8^O I haven't used it myself in a year and a half....

Thanks for flagging this. I'll get rid of the version restriction on ffmpeg and also libav-no-libs... had no idea libav was declared dead two years ago....

Hi! At this point it may make sense to change the 'ffmpeg>0.4.8' depends to just 'ffmpeg' so that alternate ffmpeg builds can be used.

Thanks for the PKGBUILD!
