Can you please add following in your PKGBUILD?

options=('!strip')

Strip is set by default, but since the package has no executables stripping is not needed and it takes ages on my PC to complete.

As Score_Under said - git needs to be added to makedeps, otherwise build fails in clean chroot.

vlc 3.0.1-2 fails to launch gui when flat-remix is selected as the current icon set. Package version r142.5c8f2d1-1.
