Could you please add backup=('etc/freenom.yml') and

install -Dm0644 systemd/system/freenom-dns-updater.service "$pkgdir/usr/lib/systemd/system/freenom-dns-updater.service"
install -Dm0644 freenom.yml.TEMPLATE "$pkgdir/etc/freenom.yml"

to the package() section to be able to use it as a service
