@iuseakeyboard, because if you look closely you'll see it hasn't been maintained since 2013. At that time 2.4.12 was the newest version available, now today that is really really old. Freetype 2.6 is the newest available and thanks to bohoomil the patches also work for this version.

Have a look on his site for a pre-built binary repository if you're more comfortable using that.

According to infinality.net the latest version is 2.4.12. The "old package" is already 2.4.12. Why are we "upgrading" to boohomil's version? What am I missing here?

Don't know about HiDPI but it's easy to install and try. I notice a _huge_ improvement on my 27" 1440p screen, no fringing, no aliasing and super sharp. Simply can't be done without these patches.

Any visible visual improvements using this package on HiDPI screens? Looking for opinion.

Adopted the package and built it with the latest infinality patches and freetype version. fontconfig-infinality will be updated shortly.

freetype-2.4.12.tar.bz2 fails the checksum check.

There is a bug in the latest release which prevents build of some packages:

FT_Get_X11_Font_Format is defined in freetype2/ftxf86.h, but in infinality, it's defined in freetype2/ftfntfmt.h.

See e.g. HERE:

I am going to fix only freetype security patches for this package and follow RHEL7 for fixes only if its necesary since the freetype version is close to RHEL7.

@Jristz The upstream for this package is released at http://www.infinality.net/blog/infinality-freetype-patches/. This package gives the latest version of infinality, which is not yet caught up to the latest version of freetype2.
