Thank you for the help @phuijse - I've made the change and confirmed that it looks fixed in my test environment. PKGBUILD has been updated along with a new release version.

@leothrix A year later but the problem with the SUN RPC libraries not found persists. Luckily it is very easy to solve: just add CFLAGS="-I/usr/include/tirpc" LDFLAGS="-ltirpc" to the configure line in the PKGBUILD. More details here: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/lash/

Yes, it just doesn't build with current glibc. I'm not aware of a patch, but I imagine the next version will have a fix. There may be a git commit in their repo by now. I'm away atm, so can't really check myself I'm afraid.

@giddie hmm, do you know if there's a patch/diff somewhere that we could include in the PKGBUILD? I haven't compiled ganglia against latest glibc in quite a while since they haven't done a release to prompt a recompile, that must be why I missed it. Is ganglia just simply not compiling on Arch right now due to the glibc version?

This seems to be related to this change in glibc: https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2011-May/msg00537.html

So this is really an upstream issue (using a deprecated header), but it may be possible to patch the configure script in the meantime.

Correct; it does show up as modified under a `pacman -Qkk ganglia`. It's kind of a compromise between tracking directory package ownership and `-Qkk` output - it's not ideal in either case without standard ID's, unfortunately. :-\

Out of curiosity, would that not trigger warnings from pacman about different ownership in the package and the filesystem?

Yep, that does. I added the line to create the directory to the PKGBUILD in order to create an association with the directory in the package database for better auditing, and had to leave the line in the .install file in order to change ownership after the user gets created (again, no standard uid/gid for ganglia.)

@leothrix It might be worth me explaining that I think the reason I originally had the /var/lib installation in the post_upgrade hook is that the directory needs to be owned by the ganglia user. If it's installed by the package, the directory will either be owned by root or a specific uid/gid, and as there is no official, standard uid/gid for the ganglia user and group, I did that in the install hook instead of the pkgbuild. Hope that makes sense!
