Sorry for the git noise, I pushed some WIP changes up prematurely.
I adopted the package, and made it work. One of the main changes was to implement all of the latest recommendations regarding node.js packages.
The biggest change is installing from npm tarballs instead of from git source. This saves considerable about of time during install and eliminates the most painful part of the package: building from one src file to another src file.
Anyway, let me know how it goes if you end up trying this.
