Are you aware of the xbmc-beta package? What is the difference between the two? I feel like probably only one of the two should stick around - any chance you could talk with Chais to see if you can figure something out?

jarfbarker: Using git as source is for *-git packages, *-devel packages ought to package development releases.
I've updated the service file, thx for the heads up.

Also, there is an updated service file in the main repo that is needed to start xbmc on boot.

jarfbarker commented on 2014-03-18 19:06

Out of curiosity, why not use the following for the source?

git://github.com/xbmc/xbmc.git#branch=Gotham

Updated .service file accordingly. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for this!

Just one thing, can you update xbmc.service like the [community] package? (bug https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/39234)

Chais commented on 2014-03-14 12:57

Oh damn. I was convinced I included that. I have now. Thanks.

I believe what niekez is saying is you need this line:
conflicts=('xbmc' 'xbmc-pulse' 'xbmc-svn' 'xbmc-git')

and maybe

provides=('xbmc')

which is from xbmc-git PKGBUILD. it's not about where the files are overwritten, it is about keeping pacman in sync. if you uninstall xbmc-git after installing xbmc-beta...you have a problem. pacman must uninstall xbmc-git before installing xbmc-beta, this is achieved with the conflicts line.
