The PKGBUILD file supports a few different configurable build-time options:
  • _makenconfig Tweak kernel options prior to a build via nconfig. Pseudo-graphical menu based on ncurses. 1 2
  • _localmodcfg Only compile active modules to VASTLY reduce the number of modules built and the build time.
  • Please read arch wiki page for detailed explanation on how to use it.
  • _subarch Enable additional optimization/tuning for kernel builds by adding more micro-architectures options. Default is Generic-x86-64 number 36 if nothing else is selected.
  • PKGBUILD file with the list of architectures
  • graysky kernel_compiler_patch
  • _use_current Use the current kernel's .config file. Enabling this option will use the .config of the RUNNING kernel rather than the ARCH defaults. Useful when the package gets updated and you already went through the trouble of customizing your config options. NOT recommended when a new kernel is released, but again, convenient for package bumps.
  • _use_llvm_lto Compile the kernel with LLVM/Clang.
  • _debug Enable y some additional debug features present in arch kernel, but not in Clear upstream. n to force disable or leave empty to ignore.
Lastly, build the kernel by setting your environment variable env _subarch=40 _localmodcfg=y.

1. Binaries available in my repo: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/metakcahura:/kernel/Arch_Extra_standard/x86_64/
[home_metakcahura_kernel_Arch_Extra_standard]
SigLevel = Never
Server = http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/metakcahura:/kernel/Arch_Extra_standard/$arch
THIS IS OPTIONAL:
2. After install adjust your boot cmd line. ClearLinux uses clr-boot-manager which takes care of that. This is upstream default:
quiet console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200n8 cryptomgr.notests initcall_debug intel_iommu=igfx_off kvm-intel.nested=1 no_timer_check noreplace-smp page_alloc.shuffle=1 rcupdate.rcu_expedited=1 rootfstype=ext4,btrfs,xfs,f2fs tsc=reliable rw

Hi @metak! nice work with Clear Kernel. I'm using the 5.9.6 from your repo, and all boot parms requireds by Clear, including module.sig_unenforce.

With standard and Zen Kernel, all nvidia modules are loaded correctly - nvidia, nvidia_drm, nvidia_modset, nvidia_uvm. On clear nvidia_uvm module not is loaded, and apps like blender, and other that uses CUDA cores, not recognize the nvidia (cuda device).

I've try with # modprobe nvidia_uvm command but the error is returned: modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'nvidia_uvm': Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg).

Running dmesg i got:

  184.986139] nvidia_uvm: module uses symbols from proprietary module nvidia, inheriting taint.
[  184.986268] nvidia_uvm: Unknown symbol radix_tree_preloads (err -2)

I've don't understand why the standard and zen Kernels loads and Clear not. Any idea?

@krathalan I can change that with next update.

@metak some users (like myself) may have their ~/.config/modprobed.db file actually be a symlink to somewhere else that is shared with other systems. You should change the -f on line 215 from if [ -f $HOME/.config/modprobed.db ]; then to -e, so it reads if [ -e $HOME/.config/modprobed.db ]; then.

From man test, -f checks that: FILE exists and is a regular file (emphasis mine). -e only checks that: FILE exists. -f returns false if the file exists but is a symlink.

So once I've built the kernel with my customized config options from nconfig, I see the config file is copied into the main directory. How do I use this when I want to recompile again, or when the kernel updates and there are more config options (like make oldconfig would show you)?

Thanks, metak!

@enihcam Change urls, remove patches and configs added in this package that you don't need. Comment out the Patch0129 otherwise the build will fail.

@metak, I need patches from https://github.com/clearlinux-pkgs/linux-hyperv instead. Can I just grab your PKGBUILD and change few URLs? what else should I change?

@Gonzo2028 Works fine on my end. Please try building with makepkg instead of aur helpers and clean your build directory first.

@Tjuh Well that's up to clear team to update first. The -current & -preempt-rt are both updated to latest clear versions 5.8.0.rc7 & 5.6.19.rt11 - upstream.
5.9rc1 was released and clear team will probably update their -current soon to it.

Tjuh commented on 2020-08-19 14:56 (UTC)

Plese update current and preempt-rt versions.
