@Gyroplast: Yep, although I'm not sure why it worked on some machines until now, because the chrome-sandbox binary definitely didn't have the correct permissions. A different sandbox type might have been used on those (https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/main/docs/linux/sandboxing.md#sandbox-types-summary), but I don't know enough about Chromium to verify that.

For posterity: check() failing in versions 1.42.1-1 to 1.42.2-1 is adressed and fixed in 1.42.2-2 by adding --no-sandbox to the arguments of the test call, which is passed to Chromium/Electron to avoid the non-trivial sandbox setup for a simple version/executable smoke test.
