mt7610u isnt in the main kernel. 7601u is. So these adapters are still screwed and none of the drivers compile. :/

apparently, the built-in driver from the kernel is being used not this one... though this one is installed? how can I fix that? currently, it is working but super slow and unstable. I am running 4.19 kernel

Confirming on new installation with 4.19.
By default WiFi worked OOTB without installing anything but the speeds I got were pretty bad. Netflix worked but went down in quality constantly. Pulled 3-4Mbit max.

lsusb: Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0bda:8179 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8188EUS 802.11n Wireless Network Adapter
So I installed http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/8188eu-dkms and got cutoff from WiFi because apparently it's this chipset and I didn't think to google it. Reconnected with Android tethering, uninstalled and installed this module.
Now I get same speeds I get on other devices :).

Not obsolete. Reason : some users notify me that the official module does not work

This driver is obsolete, latest kernel provides "official" module for mt76x0 chipsets : https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/drivers/net/wireless/mediatek/mt76/mt76x0/usb.c

It makes my system freeze when I plug in my dongle.
