I'm disowning this package. I don't like where the development is heading. I believe all the points the author made for using CMake are very wrong. (Anti-KISS, anti-Unix, bloated, etc. See https://github.com/fletcher/MultiMarkdown-5.) I've moved to blackfriday: it's a library, it's more minimalistic yet has more interesting features imho. See https://github.com/russross/blackfriday.
