Thanks, @ainola. Noted!

Glad to see you two get things working together!

For the future, please don't create new packages to fix broken ones: Instead, file an orphan request on the package so that you can take over maintenance!

@lunaryorn

Thanks for everything. I didn't know that there is an RSS for tags, that's very handy.

About the notes and bookmarks: I'm fine if you exclude them, but if you look closer you will find that they are installed as nb-{notes,bookmarks} because the original names were so generic.

@kseistrup I've seen that your nb-snapshot also installs notes and bookmarks from bin/. If it's all the same to you I'd prefer not to install these; they've got pretty generic names that might interfere with something else, and they are just frontends to nb and don't offer much benefit.

In any case I've added you as a comaintainer here, so feel free to work on this if you like.

@kseistrup, you'd go to nb-snapshot and ask to merge it into nb. A merge is equivalent to deleting the package the request was made for, but includes transferring votes, comments, etc. to another package. If there are no votes, etc. you can also ask for deletion of nb-snapshot.

Note that there's also an orphan request to disown a package if it's obviously unmaintained (e.g. flagged out of date for a long time). That's what you'd normally do to get a package updated, instead of uploading under a new name :)

I'll add the readme to /usr/share/doc.

As for keeping up to date, you can subscribe to Git tags via RSS. I saw that nb updates once every week apparently, so I'll probably just automate package updates via Github actions (I have a separate pkgbuilds repo on Github and push to AUR with aurpublish; this allows for automating package updates).

@lunaryorn,

Hm…, should I go to nb and fill in a merge request with nb-snapshot, or go to nb-snapshot and fill in a merge request with nb?

kseistrup commented on 2021-12-31 10:40 (UTC)

@lunaryorn, thanks for adopting the package!

I don't think that there are currently any glaring differences in nb and nb-snapshot (except I prefer to install the READnE.md as a local document so I needn't consult a webbrowser in order to look up something).

I'm happy for you to maintain the package here. I'm unsure how to do a merge request (in the “Submit Request”, perhaps? I haven't looked), but perhaps it would be a good idea such that nb-snapshot doesn't become an orphan.

Btw, since Microsoft Github won't let you subscribe to release tag notifications, I've been using the awk script mentioned in the first answer on https://stackoverflow.com/questions/8055029/is-there-a-simple-way-to-git-describe-a-remote-repository to keep an eye on new releases from the commandline (easy to automate with a cron script). Please notice that the script will not work with the mawk implementation of awk — it has to be gawk.

I've adopted this package as it was disowned. I don't mind maintaining it, but if you like I can also add you as a comaintainer or pass it on to you.

I've adopted and updated the original nb package, so you may delete this package or file a merge request. If you like I can also add you as comaintainer for nb.
