@cyqsimon ooops, I missed your edit. It seems it is working fine now. Thanks !

My own edit now : I still get the same error message though

libva error: vaGetDriverNameByIndex() failed with unknown libva error, driver_name = (null)

even if nibbler seems to work correctly.

@againstthepieces my initial diagnosis was most likely incorrect, and I edited my comment a day after posting it. I assume you might have missed the edit?

Anyways, try rebuilding with the latest PKGBUILD now and see if it works.

@cyqsimon thank you for pointing this out. I couldn't fix it though. Strange as it used to work perfectly.

@againstthepieces I take back what I said, the renderer directory was not installed by PKGBUILD when you commented. I've updated PKGBUILD yesterday; try rebuilding now and see if it works.

Original comment below:

this is a graphics driver issue that's very likely not specific to nibbler. There's likely a driver missing and/or misconfiguration on your system.

You may wish to take a good look at this page.

the latest version (2023-01-03 18:42) hangs on my computer

nibbler --debug

libva error: vaGetDriverNameByIndex() failed with unknown libva error, driver_name = (null)

Renderer seems unresponsive, quitting anyway.

Also I would like to volunteer to be a co-maintainer of this package, if @ghotrix finds it okay.

I'm somewhat involved with upstream dev, so I'll be able to push out updates in a more timely manner.

@monarc99 Ah sorry. This is my bad. We did a massive reorganisation of the files upstream, but I forgot to notify the maintainer here.

@ghotrix some tips on updating PKGBUILD:

  • /files/src now only includes actual source files, so you can just copy the whole directory
  • icon and .desktop file are now available under /files/res. Note that there is a pending PR to replace the png icon with the svg variant; you may want to accommodate for this upcoming change.

you should add conflicts=('nibbler') and provides=('nibbler'), even if such a non-scm package doesn't currently exist, it a) helps aur helpers find this one and b) future proofs against collisions if a future author of a nibbler package doesn't add conflicts for this -git package

Have you considered adding well-known engines such as SF and LC0 as optional dependencies?
