It is not dead, although kinda "frozen" [see https://github.com/KenjiTakahashi/pacmixer/issues/21]. I'm also going through some turbulent time in life atm and don't have much of it for OS work. Anyway, let's discuss the patch over on GH.

And to address the other comment as well: This tool uses only the official PulseAudio API, it cannot break it any more than PA can break itself. Someone else's functional setting might not be functional for you, it's impossible to tell without examining your audio hardware setup. Gotta know what you're doing sometimes, sorry!

The other day there was an issue involving gnustep so I tried just re-installing pacmixer but it failed to build and resulted in the binary ultimately being deleted. I eventually got around to trying to find the issue which ended up being with a call to mvwprintw. The call didn't use a C format string and just directly passed a UTF8String. Simply adding a format string that just takes in a string "%s" fixed the issue and I was able to compile it again. I created a PR for this, but if this project is indeed dead anyone can simply make this change themselves and won't have to worry about missing updates (because there won't be any if its dead).

The pacmixer command seems to have disappeared for me, and the other day there seemed to be an issue involving a missing libgnustep file.

Using pacmixer for what I thought was introspection of audio input somehow corrupted a functional PulseAudio configuration such that sound output stopped functioning properly. Please consider putting some safeguards on this app. At a minimum warn the user to help them avoid this situation.

Yes, it should. Please make sure that you're using the latest one (-4) and that it was built properly (preferably in a clean chroot).

Does the updated version support gnustep 1.28? I am still seeing pacmixer: error while loading shared libraries: libgnustep-base.so.1.27: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

It seems that gnustep has been updated again and the same issue recurs.

True that. It is because of major update to gnustep. Please check the updated version, it should work now.
