@giddie is this the same thing? https://github.com/jonathanffon/poppler-lcd-patch

I've already raised this point upstream some time ago with no reaction so far. I have no proper benchmarks, but what I observed is that for really complex PDFs (e.g. scatter plots with several thousand semitransparent points) rendering time goes down from 5-10 min (Splash) to a few seconds (Cairo).

That is very interesting to hear; thank you! You genuinely might have given me the reason I needed to port to Qt6 and keep it going. I'd be super interested to see benchmark numbers if you have any available. This kind of thing could finally get the patches merged upstream.

Please do not retire it. The Cairo backend is much faster (>100x) than the Splash backend for complex documents.

If it doesn't work, maybe it should be retired?

You mean updating the patchset? It shouldn't be difficult; it's just finding time to do that 🙄. And since subpixel rendering isn't even working currently in this patchset, I'm wondering if it's really worth the effort of maintaining it just to use Cairo instead of Splash 🤷

Any news for Qt6?

I've updated the provides line. I'd love a patch for the build failure 👍
