AUR submission guidelines state, "Do not use replaces in an AUR PKGBUILD unless the package is to be renamed..." A strict literal reading is that replaces is no longer to be used after the rename has been completed (because "to be" refers to a future event). So to comply with guideline, the replaces directive has to be removed.

No, that's definitely not how packages are supposed to work, if AUR helpers are broken that's their problem. Please stop suggesting these things, and definitely stop spamming comments.

There are some packages with replaces that are causing problems for chaotic-aur users. Users of aur helpers that build local repositories would also be affected. I sent the same request to multiple packages to prevent similar problems in the future. This package is unlikely to be affected anytime soon, so the change could be queued to accompany some future update.

replaces doesn't really work for most aur users. Better to turn the old package into a metapackage that depends on the new one.

@xiota: why? It's probably not very useful anymore since everyone has upgraded from the old, removed package already, but it doesn't hurt, does it?

xiota commented on 2023-09-20 09:18 (UTC)

Please remove replaces directive. Thank you. (No need to reply via comment; AUR now sends commit notifications.)

Hi, could you please implement the version changes from my previous comment?

Please change pkgver() to use tags and expose the pkgver to the provides=():

This way, I can depend on prjtrellis>1.1 in nextpnr-git.

Upstream url should be: https://github.com/YosysHQ/prjtrellis

Symbiflow isn't the upstream, and it isn't being updated.

It seems the /usr/lib64 workaround is no longer needed, and breaks the build. mv: cannot stat '/home/streetwalrus/.cache/yay/trellis-git/pkg/trellis-git/usr/lib64': No such file or directory

@palmr: thanks, this is fixed now.
