NOTICE: This pkgbase is now produces two packages:

  • protonmail-bridge-core: Containing the core daemon & CLI program.
  • protonmail-bridge: Containing the Qt desktop application.

The second package depends on the first. If you don't have a need for the desktop application, you can now choose to only install protonmail-bridge-core.

This packaging change should be seamless and no action should be required before or after the upgrade.

Thanks to @ali.molaei and @BenTheTechGuy for the feedback regarding this change!

Just having pass installed with a key set up wasn't enough for me, I had to follow this: https://pychao.com/2020/06/10/update-on-using-protonmail-bridge-on-headless-wordpress-linux-servers/

@BoomLinuxForJeff, I have exactly the same problem...

Hi. Build fails here for, and the problem looks similar to what @catniptwinz and @BenTheTechGuy kindly reported on 2023-12-08. There is an error in check() (pardon my French):

@Nocifer, ah, missed that. It should be fixed now, thanks for reporting!

Trying to use the systemd service fails because it calls/usr/bin/protonmail-bridge, but the -core package installs the pseudo-binary as /usr/bin/protonmail-bridge-core.

The GUI version (which installs the /usr/bin/protonmail-bridge link) doesn't rely on the systemd service, so an uncomplicated solution could be to change the service to instead call /usr/bin/protonmail-bridge-core.

Yes, I got this too when grpc was updated. Rebuild the package so it links with the new version of the library.

I'm getting the issue that it's failing to start because it can't find the libgrpc++.so.1.59. My installed version of the grpc package is 1.60.

Please do not flag out of date for pre-releases, version 3.7.1 has been tagged but is not yet released.

I think by "git clone URL" they meant the PKGBUILD repo that you (or your AUR helper) clone to build the package. The answer is yes, they both have the same clone URL (https://aur.archlinux.org/protonmail-bridge.git) because they share the same pkgbase.
