@pauper: If you have a pre-existing build folder, I'd suggest manually fetching and checking out the main branch (or just clearing the src folder and running pkgbuild again).

The upstream repository renamed the master branch to main, that is likely the cause of the error you mentioned (warning: remote HEAD refers to nonexistent ref, unable to checkout).

I'm getting:

    warning: remote HEAD refers to nonexistent ref, unable to checkout  
     ==> Starting pkgver()...  
     ==> ERROR: pkgver is not allowed to contain colons, forward slashes, hyphens or  whitespace.  
     ==> ERROR: pkgver() generated an invalid version: fatal: Not a valid object name HEAD
