It seems like someone reported redshift-scheduler as unmaintained and potentially superseded by redshift (because redshift lets people configure a custom dawn/dusk time now).

It's true that redshift-scheduler hadn't received any commits since 2019. It's not abandoned though. It builds and runs just fine in 2023 as it did in 2019. Unlike a Javascript application, one does not need to update it every day to keep it working. Nevertheless, I have fixed a benign build warning and released an updated v1.3.1 version.

As to redshift-scheduler potentially being superseded by redshift due to its dawn/dusk time configuration options, this is also not true. Redshift only lets you achieve 2 daily transitions based on the sun setting - one at dusk and one at dawn. Redshift-scheduler lets you have as many transitions between as many temperature levels as you wish (configured in a rules.conf file). It's a much more powerful approach.

Some people do not need this power and are free to use regular redshift, instead of redshift-scheduler. Others may have weird daily schedules and may rely on redshift-scheduler's assistance to create multiple "dusk/dawn" pairs between different temperature levels throughout the day.

I'm liking this. Redshift has become a requirement for me and it's so nice to see someone building it up!
