@Vrakfall: You are right. Kernel version 4.17 is available for Manjaro. But it is not a LTS Kernel version and it is not recommended to use by the Manjaro maintainer. Remember, Manjaro is meant to be a stable distribution, not leading edge nor bleeding edge.
So far what I can say is, that I made appropriate modifications to the kernel dependencies inside the PKGBUILD file to match kernel version 4.14 and it compiles and runs just fine.

@MrksKwsnck: Also, now I checked, your comment makes no sense to me. 4.17.12 looks available on Manjaro!

@graysky: Oh interestingn thanks. Yeah, I dunno for Manjaro either, I mainly use Arch. You mean if they're targeting Manjaro from upstream, right?

@Vrakfall - I modeled this PKGBUILD after a number of official ones. I can only speculate that the minimum version requirement keeps bugs associated with patches needed for old builds from fucking up the works. In this case, the min. requirement is needed (I think) given some changes upstream with Arch in where it expects the _kernver. I am unfamiliar with Manjaro. You should be able to just pass the -d switch to makepkg to skip the deps check and build so long as you have the headers package installed. I dunno if they are mirroring the Arch linux package changes to which I referred.

@graysky: Why should it stick to one very kernel minor version, though? I get why the maximum one, for testing before bumping. Though I don't see why you wouldn't leave the minimum one when the release upstream is the same, especially when we know it was working before with that specific kernel version.

@MrksKwsnck - The version should match the Arch stable kernel. Modify it as you need. To my knowledge, the AUR isn't meant for Arch forks.

Why was the kernel version dependency raised to v4.16? Because of that this package cannot be installed/compiled directly from AUR in Manjaro linux. Although, it compiles and works fine with kernel v4.14 using by Manjaro stable.

I could try updating this package as I've got an rtl8192du but this wouldn't be before 20th August. That would be the date I could start trying but it will take time as it would be my very first AUR package.
No promises, I just wanted to tell I could potentially adopt the package in the future.

I think you should change line #11 to point to kernel 4.16 so that it can compile against the current
