@p.klotz: I had tried package libjpeg6-turbo, but this hadn't worked (for me) at the time. I have since successfully installed it on a second system.

I can also vouch that your updated uex package installs v21 flawlessly. Many thanks for doing this.

The /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.62 dependency can be fulfilled by package libjpeg6-turbo under Arch Linux which also exists in Manjaro (https://software.manjaro.org/package/libjpeg6-turbo).

I needed to install libjpeg62 to get UltraEdit v21 working on 5.15.85-1-MANJARO.

  1. Download libjpeg62_6b2-3_amd64.deb (or later version) from Debian mirror.
  2. debtap libjpeg62_6b2-3_amd64.deb (to create Arch package)
  3. pacman -U libjpeg62-1:6b2-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst
  4. Create /etc/ld.so.conf.d/lib_x86_64-linux-gnu.conf containing the following line: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
  5. ldconfig (adds new Shared Lib dir to default search path)

uex ran OK after this.

You're right. I was wrong. Upstream calls it uex. I will ask a TU to deny the merge and delete ultraedit.

When searching for packages in the AUR using the web interface the default is to search for package names and descriptions. So a search for "ultraedit" will already yield the "uex" package. So no problem there.

Also a Google search for "ultraedit arch linux" finds the uex package.

Which search for ultraedit turns up empty-handed?

It's much more inconvenient looking for ultraedit and not finding it even though it's available.

Isn't this switch inconvenient for current users? They will not realize uex is no longer updated and stay on the aging version. So they would have to manually uninstall uex and install ultraedit instead.

To me this seems like an attempt to hijack the package that I maintained for a few years now (and btw is currently up-to-date). Package ultraedit conveniently is maintained by you.

How do you explain this?
