The package in [extra] is not a development package. That package is built at specific intervals, and does not track all upstream updates as per this package. For example, this package allows the user to build the latest
r1451.a9aa25c, whereas the package in [extra] is stuck 16 revisions prior atr1435.97cf3e6. In addition, the [extra] package only tracked six revisions since it was created in 2016, whereas this package would have tracked all 306 revisions. The use cases are different. This-gitversion is to track the bleeding edge. The package in [extra] is rarely updated.
