Now that libldap has been updated to 2.6.0, virtuosod will throw an error:

/usr/bin/virtuosod: error while loading shared libraries: libldap-2.4.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

A simple reinstallation will fix it.

@damianj thank you for your review, implemented

I think your suggestion is good. I don't see any issues with the proposed solution.

hey guys, so what is it you suggest? maybe this?

pre_upgrade() {
  systemctl stop virtuoso
 }

post_upgrade() {
..
  systemctl is-enabled virtuoso && systemctl start virtuoso
  }

Not sure if maintainer is still around, but stopping the service sounds reasonable. There's some upgrading information (a few bullet points for upgrading from 7.X to newer versions) located at http://vos.openlinksw.com/owiki/wiki/VOS/UpgradingToVOS610#Upgrading%20from%20Release%207.x%20or%208.x%20to%20a%20newer%20Release%207.x%20or%208.x

@pfrenssen how about adding something along the lines of https://aur.archlinux.org/cgit/aur.git/tree/puppet.install?h=puppet-git ? tbh i am not running virtuoso so i'd appreciate greatly if you could help me here with the proper upgrade path.

When reinstalling it is necessary to stop the running virtuoso service before starting the reinstall. Would it perhaps be a good idea to check if the service is running and aborting the installation with an error message?

This would save a fair bit of compilation time for people that forget to stop the service.
