@Kevdog, Because this package is compiled against the specific Kernel package version currently in the Arch repos, whenever a kernel update gets posted to the Arch repos (which happened a couple of days ago), this package goes out-of-date until a new version is compiled, tested, and posted to the arch-zfs repo that corresponds to the correct kernel version.

Why was this package flagged out of date?

Thanks @ginger and @dmp1ce for your comments.

I was not using archzfs repo and did not add any mirrors for zfs-linux installation. I am installing it directly from AUR by yay. I will try to add mirrors for archzfs repo.

Yes, I'm using the archzfs repo and I just wait until the zfs-linux and zfs-linux-lts is in sync so Pacman can update. Subscribing to the email updates here helps me time the updates.

@Egns Are you using one of the zfs-linux mirrors? If you are, I think you likely are upgrading just inside the mirror update time. There is a lag between when a new version is pushed to the zfs-linux master and when it gets percolated out to all the mirrors. For instance, my mirror updates on a random minute every hour, so there is some lag between when a package gets pushed by the maintainer and when the package is available on the mirror pacman/yay are looking at.

Sorry for a noob question.

How do you upgrade your system when a new kernel is released and zfs-linux was just updated to depend on that new kernel version?

So, like in this case:

(1) Previously installed version of zfs-linux depends on linux=5.13.4.arch1-1

(2) New kernel 5.13.5.arch1.1-1 is released

(3) zfs-linux's PKGBUILD gets updated to depend on the latest kernel version 5.13.5.arch1.1-1

(4) Now, when trying to upgrade the system by running yay, the following error is thrown

error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: installing linux (5.13.5.arch1-1) breaks dependency 'linux=5.13.4.arch1-1' required by zfs-linux

So, what do you do in this case? Do you delete zfs-linux and upgrade the system and install it back? Or there is some other way to upgrade kernel and zfs-linux at the same time?

linux kernel 5.13.5.arch1-1 was released on 26 Jul

https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/releases/tag/zfs-2.1.0

Seems a lot of improvements have been made. Will wait with flagging as Linux 5.13 hasn't been released yet in the main repo. :)

@tsj I'm using the zfs repo for this reason:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Unofficial_user_repositories#archzfs

zfs-utils has a different maintainer as isn't in sync with this one.
