I'm using gnome 3.30 at the moment. and when I open the printer settings, it shows that paper size is A4, but probably letter size in real.

I found that the page size can be changed via cups only if user is the member of group which are defined as SystemGroup in `/etc/cups/cups-files.conf' which are sys, root for me.

So, If you can add user which can modify the default settings via

bash
USERNAME=$(whoami)
sudo usermod -a -G sys $USERNAME
exit

-- Or add one of user's group into SystemGroup in /etc/cups/cups-files.conf

I had trouble with setting Page Size via cups not taking effect. Worked around by using brmfcj265wrc command. It seemed like permission issues with /opt/.../brmfcj265wrc (changing ownership to lp worked) but I have since not been able to replicate the issue.
