IMHO the best way is to create a user with ssh public key that the monitoring server is allowed to log in and get the information. If you need the port open for your server to connect just start the socket: systemctl enable --now check_mk.socket

Can someone explain how this works, please?

The CheckMK Agent shouldn't just be something that sends information to a Check_MK server. It should run as a systemd service and listen for incoming requests from a Check_MK server on port 6556.

This package seems to install the check_mk_agent program fine, loads the systemd files into /usr/lib/systemd/system/ as check_mk@.service and check_mk.socket but doesn't register them with the systemd daemon, and never starts listening.

Where are mrpe, logwatch, and other plugins meant to be configured?

Why is there no systemd config for:

  • cmk-agent-ctl-daemon.service
  • check-mk-agent-async.service

This package is a little confusing for someone coming from Red Hat / Debian where this is all set up for the user automatically.

Hi @jkhsjdhjs. Good Question. I will remove it.

Why does package() run ls -l?

I have to admit I am not very active here... Perhaps make me a co-maintainer...

@eworm If you want to continue to maintain it, I will disown it. If not I will try to maintain it.

The systemd unit files are back in 2.1.0p19-1. Please give it a test...
