Works fine for me:

$ pacman -Ql cropgui-git

cropgui-git /usr/bin/
cropgui-git /usr/bin/cropgui
cropgui-git /usr/lib/
cropgui-git /usr/lib/python3.8/
cropgui-git /usr/lib/python3.8/site-packages/
cropgui-git /usr/lib/python3.8/site-packages/cropgui.glade
cropgui-git /usr/lib/python3.8/site-packages/cropgui_common.py
cropgui-git /usr/lib/python3.8/site-packages/filechooser.py
cropgui-git /usr/lib/python3.8/site-packages/stock-rotate-270-16.png
cropgui-git /usr/lib/python3.8/site-packages/stock-rotate-90-16.png
cropgui-git /usr/share/
cropgui-git /usr/share/applications/
cropgui-git /usr/share/applications/cropgui.desktop
cropgui-git /usr/share/pixmaps/
cropgui-git /usr/share/pixmaps/cropgui.png

How are you installing it?

Wants to create /sbin, which it should not (it is a symlink to /usr/bin):

(1/1) checking for file conflicts [################################################################] 100%
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
cropgui-git: /sbin exists in filesystem (owned by filesystem)
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

Currently broken awaiting fix

@ZaZam Maybe it's python2-gobject? Could you please test and let me know if it works, and I'll update the PKGBUILD.

Is there some missing dependency?

$ cropgui Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/cropgui", line 21, in <module> import gi ImportError: No module named gi</module>

Rhinoceros commented on 2018-04-25 09:55

Thank you for that information @27cb33fa. I've updated the dependencies.

Dependencies are incomplete.

cropgui-git won't work if the following packages are missing:

python2-gobject2

pygtk

Well, I guess it adds a bit more information than a bare revision count would. I'm happy to take it over if you like. Cheers.

Ok yes I've obviously spent 2 mins reading the instructions! But my concern would still be that tags are irrelevant information as cropgui doesn't use tags in any meaningful way. Also Rhinocerous if you want to mange this repo and do it however you like, I would be delighted. I could spend this time actually writing code.

I think you might misunderstand. Both lines of code still pull the latest version, i.e. 541e812. The only difference is that the recommended pkgver lists the most recent version in the string itself, and counts revisions relative to this. Hence, users know that they are running a version 60 commits after 0.2.

I think you might be confusing it with non-vcs PKGBUILD, i.e. `cropgui` (without the `-git`), which would have a hard coded pkgver of 0.2. Unlike either vcs code, this would pull the 2009 version.
