Could you please add a simple way to execute the binary without using the .desktop file? I did it using
ln -s /opt/balenaEtcher/balena-etcher-electron /usr/bin/etcher

I tested it yesterday and it worked! Weirdly I opened it right now, and you are right, only settings and back buttons are visible and they are not working. So I have downgraded the package to 1.5.17 for now, thanks @Tomek80Bytom
After yesterday's update application has stopped working. I'm still able to launch it, but unfortunately the main window is empty... contains only two buttons of settings and back.
ams1 isn't that the point of -bin package? ;)
I won't make updates until the new release is available on etcher.io.
Please ignore release tags on Github until Resin choose to announce them.

Please don't flag package out of date for "Pre-release" in GitHub repo!
