I've just updated this but under a new name of flirc-bin as this is a binary package; the source is not provided. I'll merge this now.

OK thanks. This shouldn't contain files in /lib so not sure why you ran into that. It puts things in /usr/lib, and you should have a symlink lib -> usr/lib. "pacman -Qo /lib"?

BTW I think that there is some problem with the 1.3.2.1-1 - I'm getting transaction error when trying to install it: error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files) flirc: /lib exists in filesystem

There seems to be a little mess with the download locations. I see that the first link doesn't contain any of the 1.3.x series updates for Linux (but there are 1.3.x packages for Windows and Mac if you go into parent directory). The second link is of course apt repository so there will always be current official version available. I'll try to work this out with the Flirc author and let you know which download location should be used. I'll also ask about the licence but neither software stack nor firmware are open source for sure.

OK cool, I just have a few questions: Is Flirc purely GPL3? Or because it's not open source does it include another license? Can you explain why there are two download locations; what are the reasons/differences between: http://downloads.flirc.tv/release/gui/linux/ http://apt.flirc.tv/arch/

@jsteel Are there any specific issues with the upstream that would need to be taken care of by the author? As I'm an admin on the Flirc forums I could try asking the author to make some adjustments if they don't break something in current target OS which is Ubuntu (14.04 I think).

A few times they've released a 64 bit version a short time before the 32 bit release followed, or a new release followed for both architectures. For the record I will wait a short time to allow the 32 bit version to follow, as it has done this time. I want to work a few things out with upstream before moving this to the official repos so for the time being I'll maintain it in the AUR.

I was waiting for this to have 10 votes. I didn't notice that it has now passed 10 so I'll move this soon, after testing VoltaicLoki's update and looking into the situation of i686.

I've created a new PKGBUILD for flirc. Its using version 1.3.1-1 which is currently only available for x86_64. It seems like the new version has some font rendering issues (in gnome at least). I'm not going to take away maintainership from cornholio unless he does not wish to maintain this anymore. The PKGBUILD can be found in my github at https://github.com/VoltaicLoki/arch-packages/blob/master/flirc/PKGBUILD
