Unfortunately I have no idea and upstream is not replying nor updating Franz currently...
I switched to another opensource solution on my own systems now.

Having troubles similar to @moosethemucha, I got messenger and rocketChat to work pretty easily, but skype and hangout will only show a blank white page. After relaunching the app I can see a login page but any link go to blank again.
Any idea ? Thanks a lot.

I'm unable to get any services to work other than facebook messenger. No other service plugins will load. Where can I find the logs? I am able to get other apps to work that use similar protocols ghetto-skype, skypeforlinux-bin, skype-electron.

@renodesper: There is one under /usr/share/pixmaps/franz.png which is used for the desktop symbol. The one used by the application itself is buried inside the binary.
They dont seem to use the new kde-icon standard so for some users it gets displayed weird (for some though it doesn't).
@caotic: Thats a kinda known problem. Unfortunately the easiest solution would be to do a pacman -Rns franz-bin and make sure everything got really removed then do a reinstall. I reported it upstream like a week ago but still waiting for a reply.

Where is franz tray icon located?
I use Plasma and franz only shows black square in the tray.
---
Found the icon in /usr/share/pixmaps/franz.png.
Is the location wrong?

Every time I reboot, franz "forgets" all configured protocols. It started when I added one tab for gitter. Franz didn't include that tab after reboot. After 2 or 3 days I decided to delete ~/.config/Franz and ~/.cache/franz ( can't remember if it was capitalized ).
Now every time It starts I have to configure everything. This quite defeats the purpose of the package for me.
Perhaps I did something that prevent's franz to access storage ? Can't find any kind of log files to troubleshoot this.

I think it needs to have a conflicts with Franz, for the old aur package (it now doesn't exists, but until last week yes)

If you have troubles, read this message!
Please go to the relevant section of this comment in order to make both your and my life easier :)
Now, to the resolutions!
1. The app opens but I got a blue screen and nothing more / The app refuses to start / ...
The package depends on Node.js native stuff which are compiled at build time, which makes it break on Electron updates.
With a PKGBUILD between 2020-11-15 till 2021-09-08, you should always have gad a correct matching between Electron and Franz versions.
After 2021-09-08, while the Electron packages follows just the official Arch package dependency, as it is based on not-rolling versions (AKA following a specific Electron branch) breakages are unlikely.
If you would like to help me on this, whenever you have problems starting it, do the following:
If the above steps help you, report the package as outdated here and write in the comment something like:
If you have some other issues, you should open the developer tools and give me its output, in addition to what is your environment, so I can figure out if it is a packaging issue (my job to fix) or an upstream/code issue (their job to fix); in the second case, I will open a bug request and mention it in a comment, so that you can track it.
2. (Obsolete) I cannot upgrade Electron
The following resolution is not valid since 2021-09-08, it is kept for historic purposes
This is intended; since the PKGBUILD for Franz 5.5.0-4, the package marks as dependency a version-locked Electron package in order to avoid issues with binary modules over upgrades.
In such scenario, you should, assuming
_electron="electron"
in the PKGBUILD (meaning the Electron used is bundled in the packageelectron
):pacman -Syu --ignore electron
If you want however to upgrade the Electron package, do
pacman -S --assume-installed electron=FRANZ.REQUIRED.VERSION electron
Hope this was a good explanation, might get updates if I missed something :)
