ffmpeg2.8 fixed the sound error. You might want to add it as an optdepends. I figured out one way to get ib-tws to generate sound: the alerts window.

I am getting a checksum failure as well

I'm getting a checksum failure when I try to install. the tws-latest script fails its checksum after it downloads. I am running Manjaro, if it matters.
