I forgot to build .SRCINFO since the last release.

Since I use yaourt to install aur packages, I didn't realize I made this mistake.

In my mind, the real point here is that .SRCINFO probably have to be built automatically (perhaps serverside).

It wasn't needed before AUR4.

There is absolutly no added value in launching mksrcinfo manually each time you update a PKGBUILD.

I will probably write a git hook waiting for a better solution

kaputtnik commented on 2017-12-19 10:11 (UTC)

Looks like pacaur was used, at least from user pleycpl. I had also no problem installing komodo-edit with normal pacman steps.

pacaur is not maintaned anymore and relies on 6 year old code. See the posts in the pacaur topic: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1755144#p1755144

adlerweb commented on 2017-12-19 10:02 (UTC)

Yes, .SRCINFO is not up to date, this should however not prevent using the package. I just installed 11.0.1_18119-1 without any problem. Are you using any AUR-helpers? If so try calling makepkg directly.

commented on 2017-12-19 09:35 (UTC)

I'm having the same problem. :[ Non working packages should be banned from AUR.

Dind't had any issues with the files, no integrity failure. I guess user slav had trouble during download/save?

If anyone else is running into download failures/timeout: Activestates servers are blocking various IP-ranges for "security reasons". So if you can't download try using a VPN.

@max-k I've noticed an error in the PKGBUILD that I'm surprised hasn't led to problems yet, line 37 and 38 you use the variable `${minor}` which is undefined, I think what you intended to use was `${_minor}`, which is defined.

Hi fusion809, I tried to reinstall it today on my laptop and it works well. It seems you have a common problem of invalid PYTHONPATH or PYTHONHOME variables. Please check them before trying another build. Perhaps this link can help : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21874407/python-ipython-importerror-no-module-named-site

makepkg now natively supports different sources for each architecture. Here is a patch: http://paste.awesom.eu/0cKN It will make it easier for you to update the checksums (makepkg -g will work correctly).

sylvite commented on 2013-11-21 06:10 (UTC)

Ok. A few things. 1) Newest PKGBUILD and patches now installs and runs correctly without core dumping. 2) I experimented and completely removed both the prepare() and build() methods from PKGBUILD. Without the patches, using only the package() function, the app runs correctly after installing. I still had a the previous version of the PKGBUILD and patch files on my system. With the previous version of the patch files, when using the prepare() function to do the 2 patches, the app would core dump. When not using the patches or prepare() function, the installed app would run fine. So, it looks like the base install works without being patched, using only the package() function and "./install.sh ..." command it contains. The previous version of the patches were what was causing the problems. And now they appear to be fixed-- but aren't needed. Also, 3) there's a new version of Komodo Edit out, 8.5.3.

max-k commented on 2013-11-16 19:47 (UTC)

@adlerweb : Hum ... interesting. I use yaourt to and there's no problem but it's the first real track to follow.

adlerweb commented on 2013-11-16 11:47 (UTC)

Uhm… @sylvite: Are you using a AUR-manager by any chance? Just noticed the same segfault-problem when yaourt updated to 8.5.2_13850-4 - i reinstalled using just makepkg/pacman and everything is starting fine again. Reproducible on my system, every installation using yaourt broke, makepkg fine…

sylvite commented on 2013-11-14 04:41 (UTC)

@max-k: * latest -4 newly updated: yes * crashes on startup * also still crashes when remove ~/.komodoedit I put output from several commands (gdb, strace, valgrind, etc.) here: http://pastebin.com/rbGraCpM I also downloaded the tar.gz files from activestate for versions 7.1.3, 8.0.0, 8.0.2, 8.5.0, and 8.5.1. I installed each of them in a separate directory in my hone dir. And every one of them runs just fine. I also copied /opt/komodo-edit (installed from this latest 8.5.2...-4 package) to a subdir in my home, and after chown'ing it and running it, it still core dumps. I also ran `sudo ./install.sh` to /opt/komodo-edit-x, and that install runs fine. So, every combination I can think of where I install old or current versions, as user or as root, in my home or in /opt-- every single one of them works and runs fine running the archive's install.sh manually. But in all but one case over the past year (when it somehow magically worked for 8.5.0 several months ago), I've never had anything but problems when trying to get this AUR/PKGBUILD to run-- and many times it didn't even install correctly. So, I'm just a little frustrated, and am just going back to using 8.5.2 installed in my home directory, which works fine. (I have about 40 or so AUR packages intalled, and this is the only one I've ever had problems with.)

max-k commented on 2013-11-13 16:32 (UTC)

@Sylvite: * Are you testing with 8.5.2_13850-4 newly updated version ? * Does Komodo start on does it crash at startup ? * Does komodo works when you remove your ~/.komodoedit directory ? * Could you try to get more infos on the problem using this guide ? https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Step_By_Step_Debugging_Guide If you find something, i'll help you to find a solution if possible.

sylvite commented on 2013-11-13 15:55 (UTC)

Tried new package-- same result: several GLib-GObject-WARNING's, and then segmentation fault (core dumped) /opt/komodo-edit/bin/komodo I'm also running KDE, and openbox. I had 8.5.0 running fine for several months from this package. As soon as this package was updated to 8.5.1, this package has not worked since. But manually installing and running the unpatched, unmodified .tar.gz & install.sh from ActiveState on KDE and openbox both does work. I have the unpatched, unmodified Activestate package installed to ~/opt/komodo-edit. I discovered today that all the GLib-GObject WARNING's are probably a red herring... running from my ~/opt/komodo-edit, I get the exact same WARNING's. But I don't get the segfault. This is in both KDE and openbox.

New package correcting activestate installer bugs uploaded. Please update.

max-k commented on 2013-11-13 10:36 (UTC)

@willemw : Ok, i consider this bug resolved if the crash doesn't come back. @mrzeznicki : I agree with that. I added these deps only for testing purpose.

mrzeznicki commented on 2013-11-13 09:56 (UTC)

Hi, Lemme put my two cents in - dependencies on libgnome(ui) that were added to PKGBUILD are IMO completely worthless. I've been using this package for few moths on KDE without them, with no glitches/crashes whatsoever. Is it really needed to pull into a non-gnome system dozens of gnome deps (gnome-vfs, bunch of libgnome*, gvfs, orbit) that komodo is obviously fine without? I've never had these installed. Thanks.

willemw commented on 2013-11-13 05:40 (UTC)

The crash always occurred at start up. Those messages at start up may (very probably, I think) not be related to the crash. Yesterday I made minor changes to the PKGBUILD file and ran makepkg -i after each modification. Sometimes komodo-edit would always crash after an installation. I updated everything. Removed the config folder. Restarted the PC. Komodo-edit launches fine, this time. If the crash comes back, maybe we could run strace or a similar tool, to check for errors or compare different outputs.

max-k commented on 2013-11-13 02:04 (UTC)

@willemw, @sylvite : Could you try the new version (8.5.2_13850-2) ?

max-k commented on 2013-11-13 01:38 (UTC)

@willemw, @sylvite : Messages like 'GLib-GObject-WARNING' disapeared when i downgrade glib2 : * glib2 -> 2.36.4-1 * gvfs -> 1.18.2-1 I can't repoduce your problems on my installation. I've tried to install komodoedit manually but both manual and packaged installations works fine even if install libgnomeui. I need some infos to try to find what's wrong : * Do you have problems only using latest version 8.5.2_13850-1 of my package ? * Does the crashes occures at startup or after some steps ? * Could you try removing your ~/.komodoedit directory (backup it before) ?

max-k commented on 2013-11-12 20:52 (UTC)

Hi, ill try to investigate to find where is the problem but I use xfce and komodo-edit never crash on my machines so i need your feedback to find what's wrong. @willemw : your error messages are libgnomeui related and i don't get them even if i install it. eg : (komodo edit:26314): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: Attempt to add property GnomeProgram::sm-connect after class was initialised @sylvite : As you can see, this package does this actions : 1 - download tar.gz 'package' from activestate 2 - patch the install to remove verbose messages during installation 3 - go to extracted directory 4 - launch install.sh -s -I /opt/komodo-edit 5 - Make a usable .desktop file so komodo appears in your menus 6 - Make a symlink so komodo can be launched from command-line I really don't know why this is different from a manual installation Perhaps you can help ?

willemw commented on 2013-11-12 16:15 (UTC)

Sorry, ignore my previous comment. I tried my fix again. Now it crashes again. (Looking at the patch file, I realize that it is very unlikely it has anything to do with the core dump anyway).

((OT: *sigh* Please keep this area for bugs, patches, etc - if you want to rant about benefits and disadvantages of AUR please use the forum...)) B2T: Besides the patch i cant really see anything obvious in the PKGBUILD. I installed (or better updated) using the previous PKGBUILD and my posted changes (diff is the same besides pkgrel so patch was active) and did not run into this issue on x86_64. Since the messages mentioned it: I dont have gnome on this machine, will have a look on other ones with gnome later.

sylvite commented on 2013-11-12 15:18 (UTC)

Same output and core dump as @willemw. Commenting out 'patch... ' didn't help-- still core dumps. Just as my comment on 2013-06-10 15:16: Simply downloading the .tar.gz, extracting, and running install.sh, the package from activestate works fine. So there's something wrong the AUR packaging, not the app itself.

Thank you, @max-k. It *does* work now. I knew the app worked-- I just didn't know enough about AUR packaging to try to fix it. (Now I can finally delete the 2nd install I did in my home dir.)

max-k commented on 2013-06-24 01:11 (UTC)

Sorry, I have rewritten the package and it's now ok.

sylvite commented on 2013-06-22 20:06 (UTC)

The "g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed" error may be related, but the app runs fine despite that error-- if installed without AUR packaging (as I mentioned before). I have this AUR package installed, and I downloaded and manually installed from the .tar.gz via the install.sh outside of the AUR packaging to a dir in my home directory. 2 separate installs of the same application. One works, one does not. When I run each bin/komodo (separately, one at a time, etc.), they both print out that g_slice... message. However, this AUR package crashes. The other install does not-- It runs fine, despite this message. I've been running 8.0.2 daily for weeks just fine. So, there's still something wrong/missing/incomplete/?? about the AUR packaging vs. just using the download from activestate as is.

adrianx commented on 2013-06-21 21:33 (UTC)

@Katana Yes I do and I've noticed a lot of .../mozilla/... in the stack trace.

adrianx - in stderr/stdout, do you see anything about g_slice_set_config? If so, you're probably running into the same problem as me; mozilla is working on it atm. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=833117 (Komodo is built on top of mozilla code, for those unaware)

sylvite commented on 2013-06-10 15:16 (UTC)

Agree with @adrianx-- Same error. Simply downloading the .tar.gz, extracting, and running install.sh, the package from activestate works fine. So there's something wrong the AUR packaging, not the app itself.

@adrianx: This bug is related to glib2. Sorry i can do anything for the moment.

techlive commented on 2013-05-25 16:44 (UTC)

@max-k: please send an email to AUR mailing list asking for a rename, this way, the votes and notification list of the old package could be transfered to this one.

1: you need to see if you can have the AUR maintainers merge the packages (or rename the package itself without having to create a new one) 2: you should be dropping a comment on the old package to let us know you made this change - I was checking that package looking for an update and not seeing anything.

In komodoedit 7.02_9923-3, the komodoedit-7.desktop file seems to be missing. The grep line in PKGBUILD file fails. Possible Workaround: Replace grep line with: echo "[Desktop Entry]" > ${srcdir}/${pkgname}.desktop echo "Name=Komodo Edit 7" >> ${srcdir}/${pkgname}.desktop echo "GenericName=Editor" >> ${srcdir}/${pkgname}.desktop echo "Comment=Free multi-platform editor that makes it easy to write quality code." >> ${srcdir}/${pkgname}.desktop echo "Terminal=false" >> ${srcdir}/${pkgname}.desktop echo "Type=Application" >> ${srcdir}/${pkgname}.desktop echo "MimeType=text/plain;" >> ${srcdir}/${pkgname}.desktop echo "Categories=ActiveState;Application;Development;Editor;Utility;TextEditor;" >> ${srcdir}/${pkgname}.desktop

Add "options=(!strip)" to the PKGBUILD-file as "strip" cannot strip all the libraries in this package, thus preventing the package from being built.
