Actually, the up to date version uses openssl again.

Because a -git package builds from git master, it needs to have a pkgver() function to automatically set the package version. Without it, the package will appear to be at 2.1.3.8be3be8 forever even though the actual commits change.

Specifying ${pkgname}-${pkgver}:: for a Git repository is redundant and only counterproductive – this is one situation where you want to reuse the same repository over and over (makepkg will automatically fetch new commits).
