I think it is better to add conflicts
array to the package. This section suggests linux-firmware-xz can be installed while pacman won't remove linux-firmware, and this does happen, which results failing to install.

This is the aur
branch of the main repository that is hosted on GitLab, it doesn't have any of the previous commits since AUR restricts the amount of space the object are allowed to take up, and the history has a few blobs. You may want to use that directly instead of the repository hosted here.
